Dog
Holidays
If
you are travelling by car, your dog must be secured with a harness. If you are
going on a long journey, remember to take regular breaks in a safe area for your
dog to stretch her/his legs. NEVER EVER leave your dog in a car, even if
you think it will only be for a short time. Dogs quickly and easily become overheated
or cold which are very serious conditions. So please Never leave them in a car.
Take
a bottle of water and a plastic bowl in your car and keep it in an easy to reach
place. So your dog can have regular drinks. It is possible to buy special travel
dog Bowls.
Take
enough supplies of your dogs normal food with you, also remember to pack adequate
supplies of any medications your dog needs. You should also take your normal first
aid kit for dogs.
Of
course as always your dog must be wearing an identity tag, or hopefully you will
have had them
microchipped. If they are microchipped,
don't forget to take their id number with you. Make
a temporary holiday identity tag.
Also
take a recent photo of your dog with you, if she/he becomes lost a photo willl
be useful to show the police and others.
You
can find lots of useful information about microchipping, and travelling abroad
with your pet on The Department for Environment,
Food and Rural Affairs website
You
can find lots of Dog Friendly holidays on the
Dogs Trust website.
Dont
forget to pack your Camera and take lots of lovely photos of your doggie having
a wonderful holiday
